Upton Park Trophy
Winners decided in a final match between the champions of Guernsey (Priaulx League) and Jersey (Jersey Football Combination); the venue alternates every year.
The Upton Park Trophy was donated to the Guernsey F.A. by Upton Park F.C. (from East London) after their making ten consecutive annual Easter visits; it is played for by the leading civilian teams at each island.

Guernsey Champions
While a championship on Jersey was first organised in 1904/05, Guernsey organised one since the 1893/94 season. It was often won by military teams, which were not eligible to enter the Upton Park Trophy (contested by the best civilian team in the standings).

Jersey Champions
The Jersey Football League was founded in 1904. All winners prior to World War I were military sides, except in 1906 and 1913. Since then only in 1926 were the winners a military side. Early trophies were won outright after three titles. The current James Marquis Memorial Trophy was presented by Young Men's Christian Association Football Club in memory of the president of the Jersey Football Association and their club. It is a 16" silver (hallmarked) trophy with a 6" non detachable lid standing on a 9" wooden base which has three rows of shields giving the previous winners of the trophy. It is engraved -

There were also the Saturday Football League (founded in 1934) and the Caesarean Football League (functioning by 1938) operating in Jersey alongside the J.F.L. at various times. The J.F.L. and Saturday League amalgamated in 1975 to form the present day Jersey Football Combination.

W.E. Guiton Memorial Trophy
The trophy is a large hexagonal with thin double handles, hallmarked silver trophy standing 11" high on a 4" wooden base. It is engraved on the front panel –
The / W.E. Guiton / Memorial / 2nd Div. / Trophy / Presented To / J.F.A. / By Family Of / The Late Mr. W.E. Guiton / 1931 / Presented By / The Jersey Evening PostWalter Ernest Ingram Guiton was a printer, who acquired the Evening Post within weeks of its being founded in 1890 and developed it into what was to become Jersey's longest lasting daily newspaper - today titled the Jersey Evening Post and the island's only newspaper.
The third son of painter John Marett Guiton and Susan Godfray, he was part of a large family (he had two sisters and five brothers). His great-great-grandparents, Jean Guiton ( -1785) and Marie Simoneau (1754-1822), who married in Jersey in 1778, are believed to have come to Jersey from France.
Born in Jersey on 9th October 1856, he left school early and learned the printing trade as an apprentice at The Constitutional before going to work in London. He returned to Jersey and at the age of 23 he bought the Charles Street printing business of T. Mackenzie. He immediately became involved with newspapers, undertaking the printing and production of The Weekly Advertiser, The Jersey Observer and La Chronique Financiere.
The Rev William Burberry started the Evening Post in 1890, but it failed to make an impact in a highly competitive market. Owing £40 for printing costs to Walter Guiton and unable to pay, he sold the newspaper to him for that amount.
Guiton developed a remarkable judgment for what the Jersey public wanted from its newspapers and one by one he saw off the opposition and ensured that his newspaper reached all corners of the island with a distribution network using horse drawn vans. He expanded his Charles Street premises in St. Helier through to Bath Street, invested heavily in the latest presses, and witnessed the inauguration of electrically powered presses in 1926, shortly before his death the following year. Walter Guiton was active in the Methodist Church and his funeral took place at Aquila Road Chapel.
The business passed to his son-in-law Arthur Harrison, and eventually to his grandson Arthur Guiton Harrison. It was to expand considerably in the latter part of the 20th century, giving rise to the Guiton Group, named in his honour.
On the side panels of the trophy are engraved the winners in four columns –

Jersey Football Combination Division 1 Trophy (W.E.Guiton Memorial Trophy) (Jersey)
Walter Ernest Ingram Guiton (1856-1927) was a printer, who acquired the Evening Post (now the Jersey Evening Post) within weeks of its being founded in 1890
and developed it in to what was to become Jersey's longest lasting daily newspaper and now the Island's only newspaper.
He left school early and learned the printing trade as an apprentice before going to work in London. He returned to Jersey and in 1880 bought the
Mackenzie printing business in Charles Street, St. Helier. He soon became involved with newspapers, printing and producing a number of them.
The Rev. William Burberry started another in 1890, the Evening Post, but it did not make an impression in a competitive market.
Owing £40 for printing it to Walter Guiton and unable to pay, he sold the newspaper to him to clear the debt.
Guiton gradually saw off the opposition as the Evening Post reached all corners of the island with the use of horse drawn vans. He expanded the Charles Street
premises through to Bath Street, invested in the latest printing presses, and witnessed the inauguration of electrically powered presses in 1926.
He retired shortly afterwards and died the following year.
The business passed to his son in law Arthur Harrison, and eventually to his grandson Arthur Guiton Harrison. It expanded considerably in the latter part
of the 20th century, re-locating from St. Helier to its present H.Q. at Five Oaks, St. Saviour in 1977 and the company named the Guiton Group, in Walter's memory.
In 1930 the Jersey Football League was looking for a replacement trophy for its second division league champions. Their three previous trophies were all
available to win outright after three successes so the Vautier (1905-1910), Simonet (1911-1924) and Tower (1925-1930) cups had all been "retired" by
Jersey Wanderers, First Tower United and First Tower United (again) respectively.
The Jersey Evening Post stepped forward and presented the W.E.Guiton Memorial Trophy, a 15" silver hallmarked, double handled trophy, on a wooden base.
It is perpetual so cannot be won outright and is engraved -
The / W.E.Guiton/ Memorial/ 2nd Div./ Trophy/ Presented To/ J.F.A./ By Family Of/ The Late Mr. W.E.Guiton/ 1931/ Presented By/ The Jersey Evening Post.
In 1975 with the formation of the Jersey Football Combination it became their Division 1 Reserves, re-named Division 1 in 2008, League winners trophy.
The winners are engraved in four columns on the trophy itself - 1930-31 to 1959-60, 1960-61 to 1984-85, 1985-86 to 2014-15 and 2015-16 to 17-18.
There was no competition in 1915-19 and 1940-46. In 1969 the trophy was shared for the only time - by St. Paul's and Jersey Wanderers when, after finishing level
on points, a play-off with extra time failed to separate them. Brian Harrison, the great grandson of Guiton, noted at the trophy presentation after the match that it had
proved to be an expensive outcome for the Jersey Evening Post as they would now have to provide an extra set of medals for the players.
In its early years it was twice won by Regiments stationed in the Island. In 1908 by the Band of the 1st Battalion the East Surrey Regiment.
Based at Kingston upon Thames they were stationed in the Island 1905-09 and are now part of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment, and in 1913
by the Band of the 1st Battalion the Devonshire Regiment based in Exeter, they are now part of The Rifles, and garrisoned the Island 1911-14.
St. Paul's have the most wins with 18 plus one shared whilst second placed First Tower United had 6 successive wins 1990 to 1995

E.H.Willis Memorial Trophy (Jersey)
NB: Jersey F.A. Bowl since 2019/20.
The trophy is currently (from 2014-15) a "consolation" competition for clubs knocked out in
the first two rounds of the Le Riche Cup.
Until 2013-2014 it was competed for by the first teams of "Championship" clubs and the
reserve teams of "Premiership" clubs in the Jersey Football Combination.
In the more distant past it also incorporated teams from the now defunct Jersey (Guiton
Division 2), Caesarean and Sunday Soccer Leagues.
The other leagues each played their fixtures on different days of the week (Tuesday &
Thursday evenings; Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings so the competition was later
revised with each holding their own section(s) of the competition with the "winners" only
combining at the semi-final stage.
The Lt. Gov of Jersey (1929-34) Edward Henry Willis C.B. (and later C.M.G.) (1870-June 1961)
presented the original trophy to the Jersey F.A. in 1929
The trophy was to be kept by the first club to win it three times.
Jersey Motor Transport came close as after winning it in 1932 and 1933 they were only denied
by First Tower United Reserves in a replayed final in 1937.
First Tower United won it again in 1939 so when they met J.M.T. again in the first post war
final in 1947 the winners were bound to take the trophy outright.
First Tower United did so and another trophy was presented for competition the following
season.
The new trophy was again to be kept by the first to win it on three occasions but wins of
the first (retired) trophy would not count towards this.
Therefore third overall wins by Oaklands in 1949, St. Ouen in 1950 and Jersey Wanderers
Reserves in 1955 did not retire the new trophy.
Instead it fell to B.E.A. (British European Airways) “Silver Wing” the winners in 1958, 1960
and 1962 to take possession of it.
Unfortunately this second trophy no longer exists as it was later a "victim" of the inferno
that engulfed the B.E.A. club rooms at the Weighbridge in St. Helier.
B.E.A. in the meantime had presented a third trophy but with the proviso that it was perpetual
and so could not be won outright.
This was now the E.H.Willis "Memorial" Trophy as the original donor had died the previous year.
The new donors promptly won the new trophy for the first three years of its existence and in
five of its first ten to take their overall tally to 8 in 15 seasons.
Their overall total of eight as well as their four consecutive wins are both still records
for the competition.
The current trophy is a 8" silver (hallmarked) double handled cup with 4" base and engraved -
The Willis Memorial Trophy / Presented To /
The Jersey Football Association / In Memory Of /
Maj. General E.H. Willis C.B., C.M.G. /
by the B.E.A. Silver Wing Football Club / 1962
The winners for 1963-73, 1974-84 and 1985-1995 are engraved in three columns on the cup
itself with those from 1996 onwards on a band on the base.
(note that the winners for 1930-1962 are not included on this "new" trophy)

The Lady Bingham Trophy / Presented 1929 / Annual Competition /
Champions of 1st Div. League & "The Rest"
Sir Francis Bingham (1863-1935) was a British Army officer. A younger son of the 4th Earl
of Lucan and his life briefly overlapped with his relative John Bingham (1934-1974) the
infamous 7th Earl "Lord Lucan" Sir Francis was Lt. Gov. of Jersey 1924-1929 and a friend
of Sir Jesse Boot (1850-1931) founder of Boots the Chemist. Boot donated F.B. Fields in
St. Clement, Jersey for sports use in 1928 with the "F.B." jointly recognising his wife
Florence (a Jersey girl, nee Rowe, 1863-1952) and Francis Bingham. As a parting gift Sir
Francis donated this trophy named for his wife, Kathleen, (nee Clarke) 1870-1963.
It was competed for by the Champions v The Rest until taken over by the newly formed
Jersey Football Combination in 1975-76 for whom it became the First Division Champions v

presumably had an earlier purpose as it is engraved as being presented in 1930. The list of Division 5

Jayson Lee Memorial Trophy (35+)
The trophy was presented by St. John F.C. in memory of their player, Jayson Lee, who died
whilst playing against St. Peter in the inaugural veterans (then 40+) league match on 17th
January 2009. The abandoned match was re-staged at Springfield on 16th April 2009 as a
memorial tribute at which the trophy was first played for and was won by St. Peter.
The cup is therefore a little misleadingly engraved with St. Peter 2009 as the first
winners. Thereafter the cup has been competed for by all the veteran teams.
The 12" trophy, which has a 4" base on which the winners are listed, is engraved -

Inter-Island - various trophies
The Albert Jeremie Trophy (organised by Guernsey FA) The original trophy was a 15" twin handled hallmarked silver trophy with ornate decoration donated by Albert Jeremie (1865-1919) in 1902 Engraved on one side - The / Jeremie / Cup, on the other side - Presented To The / Guernsey / Football Association/ By / A.J.Jeremie Esq're / 1902 Topped by a 3" separately hallmarked lid again with ornate decoration, the lid is surmounted by a 3" footballer wearing a cap, buttoned shirt and very long shorts, poised to kick a six segment football All on top of a triple (each 2") tiered wooden base, fitted together with wooden pegs, on top of a basic wooden base of 1.5" The winners on the top two bases (1902-21 and 1922-37) were engraved on individual "scrolls", 4 scrolls on each side of each base with the 1904 joint winners having a scroll each whilst the 1928 joint winners are on the same scroll. In 1904 it was shared after two draws. The bottom base has three "general" plaques with the fourth side blank, each side had three columns of winners listed 1938-53 (1953 joint winners), 1954-63, 1964-73, 1974-85, 1986-96, 1997-2007, 2008-17, 2018-19 As inter island travel was severely restricted by the pandemic Jersey clubs were unable to participate in the 2020-21 competition. Therefore, the original trophy was returned in the post by St. Paul’s to the Guernsey F.A. in April 2021. It transpired that all external post, even inter-island, goes to the central postal hub in Coventry, before being forwarded. It was lost, presumed stolen, and never recovered, so the 2021 winners lifted the Guernsey F.A.’s Stranger Cup as a substitute trophy at the presentation. As St. Paul’s had a certificate of posting a claim for £3,000 was able to be made against the Post Office by Guernsey F.A. With this money a fresh trophy was commissioned as a replacement but the Guernsey F.A. declined to invite St. Paul’s to compete in the 2021-22 competition.
