On June 30th 1988 FIFA banned Mexico from all FIFA-sanctioned competitions
for two years, due to the falsification of documents concerning the ages of
players for the CONCACAF U-20 championship in Guatemala in April 1988; Mexico
had used four over-age players. FIFA confirmed on July 5th 1988 that Guatemala
would replace Mexico in the final tournament in South Korea.
